Fearless Feedback
Every piece of feedback faces two tests. Is it factual? Is it friendly? Most feedback fails at least one. Fluffy feedback is friendly but false: overly nice, unstructured and so vague the point never lands.
Fake feedback is unfriendly and false: no evidence, built on other people's opinions and often delivered behind your back. Forceful feedback is factual but unfriendly: accurate perhaps, but so aggressive nobody hears the message through the bruises.
Fearless feedback is the only quadrant that passes both tests. Structured, honest and evidence based, delivered with empathy, care and encouragement. And it's a practice, not a one off event: ask for feedback first, lead with genuine praise, deliver the constructive part grounded in evidence, read and adapt as you go, and make it regular. The more often you do it, the less charged each conversation becomes.
Because the conversations most people avoid are usually the ones that matter most.
